Thelca Smalley

Thelca M. (Huffman) Smalley, age 96, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at her residence. She was born April 19, 1914 in Straughn, Indiana to the late Charles T. and Myrtle Mae (Elles) Huffman.

She was a 1932 graduate of Straughn High School where she was a cheerleader and basketball player. She retired from Western Electric in 1972 after 20 years of service. She lived in Indianapolis for 15 years, Arizona for 28 years and had resided in New Castle the last 10 years. She was a longtime member of the Spiceland Friends Meeting for many years.

Survivors include her children, Douglas Lee (wife, Virginia) Smalley and Sandra Jo (husband, Lloyd) Watt both of Arizona; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Goodwin and Eileen Charlton both of which live at Raintree Square Apartments; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tivis Smalley; two brothers and one sister.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with David Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Spiceland Preservation and Tourism Society (S.P.A.T.S.), P.O.
