Theodore "Ted" Turner

Theodore "Ted" Turner, recently of New Baden, IL passed from this life on 31 July 2015 at the age of 80 yrs 8 mo. Ted, the son of Dailey Turner and Nancy Ada Mercer Turner was born in Genesis, TN on November 14, 1934 and was the third child of this union. Ted and wife, Glenda, had recently moved to Bend, OR due to health issues and to be closer to family.

Ted graduated from New Castle Senior High School in 1953 and joined the US Air Force in 1954. He retired at Gunter AFS, AL in April 1982 and joined Civil Service in October 1982, retiring again in January 2000. During his 45+ years of Federal Service, Ted and family were stationed at Randolph AFB, TX; Scott AFB, IL; Wright-Patterson AFB, OH; Ramstein AFB, Germany; RAF South Ruislip, United Kingdom; Richards-Gebaur AFB, MO and Gunter AFS. In addition, he completed a remote tour to Thule AFB, Greenland.
Ted was a 25 year plus member of the New Baden Lions Club, life member of the American Legion, Post 321 in New Baden and a member of the Church of Christ.

In October 1954, Ted married his childhood sweetheart, Glenda F. Clark Turner, and she survives at home. The Turners have two children, Glenda Therese (Jack) McKenzie of Bend, OR, and Dailey Owen (Beverly) Turner of Bolling AFB, DC area; three grandsons, Erich James (Silvana) Turner of Winter Garden, FL; Jon Michael (Cathy) Turner of Bristol, VT, and Daniel Ross (special friend Caitlin) Atwater of WI; three step-grand daughters, Talia Neeland of DC, Heather McKenzie of HI, and Kelly (Larry) Fudge of CA; two great-grand sons, Forest and Sage Turner of VT; one step great-grand son and daughter, Levi and Emery Fudge of CA. Ted has one surviving brother, Robert R. (Sue) Turner of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mildred Imogene (infant) and Margie D. Turner Shepherd; two brothers, George Ed and Ronald H. (Linda) Turner and his parent-in-laws, Owen L. and Eura E. Clark. Surviving are brothers-in-law, James E. Shepherd and Jerry M. Sayre; sisters-in-law, Myra Sue Turner, Martha L. Sayre and Linda J. Turner; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jerry M. Sayre officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 and one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW with a contingent of the United States Air Force. Local arrangements were handled by Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home in Bend, Oregon.
