Thomas E. “Tom” Owsley, 82, a resident of New Castle passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, July 5, 2024 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born November 8, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Virl and Pruda (Pence) Black. 

Tom retired from Avesta Corp. (currently New Castle Steel Plate) in 1995 after 30 years of service. He had also driven a semi-truck for Goodpaster Transport and McNeilus Truck Dealership for several years. Tom had attended Ninth Street Church of God and enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling in his earlier years. He loved watching older western movies and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan as he watched both NASCAR and Formula One Races. More than anything, Tom loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandson, Jordan play soccer, baseball and hockey.

Those left to cherish Toms memory include his wife of 61 years: Melanie Owsley, whom he married November 25, 1962; a daughter: Melissa (Carl) Decker of Apollo, PA; grandson: Jordan Decker; “adopted grandson: Rogan Bell; “adopted daughter” Casie Bell; brother: Randy (Debbie) Black; two sisters: Kathy Miller, all of New Castle and Bonita (Rusty) Kuhn of Shelbyville; two aunts: Freda Harris of Mt. Sterling, KY and Mary Cole of Palmetto, FL; sisters-in-law: Pearl Thompson of Muncie and Phyllis Sorrell of Mooreland; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a son: Tommy “Bo” Owsley; brother: Gary Black; brothers-in-law: Danny Thompson, Bart, Gary, Alan and Mitch Sorrell; sisters-in law: Shirley Orr Thompson and Carolyn Sorrell; nephews: Randy Black and Richard Thompson; niece: Angela Black; great-nephews: Nicholas Thurston and Levi Black; great-nieces: Kayla Sorrell and Spring Thompson.

Services will be held at 5:00pm Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the National Kidney Foundation, 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
