Thomas E Pender

April 22, 1932 — November 18, 2011

Thomas E. Pender was born in a small cabin in Webster County, Missouri on April 22, 1932. He was the sixth of twelve children born to Anna (Hawk) and William Pender. He spent his early years on the farm where he was born until his family moved into the small town of Conway.

He gave his heart to the Lord when he was 15 years old at the Assembly of God church in Conway, Missouri. He met Angia Lee Lack at that small church in Conway.
Angia was the love of his life. They were married on November 22, 1951. The happy couple came to New Castle to teach in the 1950’s. He also taught at Indianapolis Public Schools until he bought Pender Lincoln-Mercury which was located on Memorial Drive in New Castle. He operated the new and used car dealership until the late 1970’s. Tom constructed houses, working closely with his brother Bill. He was a man of many interests. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, piloting his Cessna 150, reading westerns and watching TV. He went to church at the First Assembly of God in New Castle; where, in years past, he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

Tom is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Barry) Holder of New Castle, Melissa Parry of New Castle, and Susan Turner of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Joe Davis, Chris Shoaf, Victor Shoaf, Anna Shoaf, Angie Turner, Amber (Turner) Wise, and Abigail (Parry) Webb: great-grandchildren, Hannah, Christopher, Elijah, Corben, Aiden, Lexi, and Melody; sisters, Mildred, Betty, and Zelma; brothers, Lonnie, Johnny, and Jerry.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Bill, Gayford, Joseph, infant brother Peter, and sister, Naomi.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at First Assembly of God with Reverend Steve Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the local American Legion and VFW and contingent from the United States Army.
