Thomas Shazer

Thomas DeWitt Shazer, 71, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Facility in Columbus. He was born December 31, 1937 in Greensburg, a son of the late Dr. Delton C. and Margaret P. (Good) Shazer.

Tom was a 1956 graduate of Greensburg High School and 1960graduate of Michigan State University. He was employed with Service Systems Corporation for 24 years, serving as Regional Vice President of Food Management. He also worked for the Greensburg Community Schools as Food Service Director for 17 years.

A member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church, Tom was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). He was also a member of the Emmaus Community and the Emmaus Men's Sharing Group. In addition he was a member of the Metropolitan Detroit Convention and Business Bureau (MDCBB). He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ann E. (Smith) Shazer of Greensburg; a son: Thomas D. (wife: Judy) Shazer, Jr. of Ann Arbor, Michigan; two daughters: Anne (husband: Bill) Reynolds of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Janet (husband: Brian) Stumm of Mendon, Massachusetts; five step daughters: Suzann Meyer of Indianapolis, Lynn (husband: Rick) Bewley of Greensburg; Lisa (husband: Claudio) Baserga of Redwood City, California; Melissa (husband: James) Westerfeld of Batesville; and Gretchen Lutes of Fishers; twenty grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister: Shirley Shazer of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Delton Shazer in 1991 and Margaret (Good) Shazer in 2001.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Greensburg United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jimmie Moore and Mike Beck officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Greensburg United Methodist Church and an hour before the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Greensburg United Methodist Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana with envelopes available at the funeral home.
