Timothy Joseph Preble, age 81, passed from this life to his eternal life in Heaven surrounded by his loving family at his home Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born on October 19, 1942 in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Carl E. and Ethel M. (Brouillette) Preble.
Tim attended Holland Elementary School and St. Anne Catholic School when it was established in 1952. He was a 1961 graduate of Walter P. Chrysler Memorial High School. He attended Ball State University then completed an Associate’s Degree in Engineering at Paducah Junior College in Paducah, Kentucky.
Tim had been an active and involved member of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Anne Parish Council. He served on the boards of the Henry County Pregnancy Care Center and the New Castle Trojan Alumni Association. He participated in his Class of 1961 alumni gatherings each year.
As a devoted 30 year member of the New Castle First Assembly of God, he served his church faithfully. He was always ready to help and be involved with the church’s ministries, especially by supporting the youth and missionaries. He had served as an usher, Men’s Ministry leader, hospitality greeter, and as a Shepherd’s Door Food Pantry worker. He loved to encourage everyone. He was always positive and complimentary in his interactions with people. Tim was a great cook and enjoyed taking meals to anyone that needed it. He felt it was a blessing to be able to serve others. It gave him great joy to begin a Thanksgiving dinner project that delivered meals to people who were not able to get out or prepare the holiday meal themselves.
Tim was an excellent golfer and loved playing golf his entire life. He played on the golf team and worked at the American Legion Golf Course at Memorial Park during high school. It was always more fun than work to be on the course. He enjoyed helping his daughters and going to their meets as they played for the New Castle High School Golf Team. He also cherished the times he was able to play golf with his son and sons-in-law over the years.
Tim served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He worked at Chrysler Corporation in the Quality Control Division for several years. He became an insurance agent and worked for local insurance agencies. He was employed by the Indiana Department of Transportation (I.N.D.O.T.) as an Engineering Project Supervisor and retired after 37 years of faithful service in the building of roads and bridges in central Indiana.
Tim was a devoted husband and father. He married the love of his life, Karen (Duncan), on November 30, 1968. They enjoyed 55 years of joyous times together. As their family of 4 children grew, they loved hosting all the family and holiday dinners. The house would be full with parents, siblings, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Tim was a true family man. He loved his children and did everything he could to help them accomplish their goals. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He looked forward to the family picnics at Memorial Park, going fishing and golfing, attending Youth Symphony Orchestra, Raintree Children’s Choir, and C.A.S.T. Camp performances, as well as going to sporting and school events. He especially liked dropping off special treats to them. The grandchildren and great grandchildren loved coming to Grandpa and Grandma’s house to play with the toys their parents played with as children.
After they both retired, Tim and Karen began traveling around the country. Their focus became visiting National Parks and enjoying the beauty of so many different places. Most trips would be through the western states and would often end in Tucson, Arizona to visit with family there.
Tim leaves behind to cherish his loving memory, his wife, Karen; children, Tom (Michelle) Preble, Kate (Gary) Studt, Mary (Ryan) Higgins, Margaret (Josh) Richardson; grandchildren, Benjamin, Lincoln, Alexander, and David Preble; Alexus Preble; Faith and Wyatt Studt; Maxwell Richardson; great grandchildren, Roman and Willow Pribble; all of New Castle; brother Charles (Maria) Preble of Tucson, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Jackie Schwager of Tucson, Arizona; Barbara Robert of Indianapolis, Indiana; Deborah Alderson of Evansville, Indiana; Jenni (Rex) Current of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethel Preble; father and mother-in-law, John and Betty Duncan; sister and brother-in-law Helen and Charles Kennedy; brothers, Bill, Bob, and Tom; sister-in-law Lou-Ann Preble; and brother-in-law John Duncan.
Services for Tim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at New Castle First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Stephen Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anne Cemetery.
