Tom "Gabby" Massengale

Tom Mix “Gabby” Massengale, age 74, of New Castle, died Saturday, August 01, 2009 at Glen Oaks Health Campus following an extended illness. He was born January 19, 1935 in Wayne County, KY, a son of the late James W. and Mary Ethel Massengale.

A resident of the New Castle area since 1949, he was a carpenter, working for several contractors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He had attended the Northside Church of God in New Castle.

He is survived by his children, Keith Allen Massengale (companion, Suzanne Helton) of New Castle, Kevin Lee (wife, Kayla) Massengale of New Castle, Bryan Dean (wife, Sharla) Massengale of Lewisville, Anthony Bruce (wife, Theresa) Massengale of Sulphur Springs, and Julie Ann (husband, Jack) Bailey of Lewisville; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia (husband, Melvin) Brumley of New Castle and Rebecca (husband, Haskell) Owens of Alpha, KY; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary in 1989, and his father, James in 1999; a brother: Eugene Massengale; two grandsons, Joseph R. Massengale and Geoffrey Ray Massengale, and a great grandson, Darius Massengale.

Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Bro. Phil Brown officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition.
