Velma Huston, 85, of Spiceland, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, May 20, 2024 at Henry Community Health. She was born January 19, 1939, in London, KY, a daughter of the late Dan and Della (Hinkle) Smith.
Velma was a “ball-of-fire” and was known for her many “down-home” phrases. A proud homemaker, she was an excellent cook and loved to cook meals for her family and friends. A servant at heart, she would do anything and everything for anyone in need. She loved her children and grandchildren, and loved the neighborhood kids, and she always helped the elderly, and taught her children to respect the elderly.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Diane (Larry) Ervin, Connie Collins, Ronnie (Pennie) Huston, and Johnny (Kimberly) Huston; grandchildren, Missy (Mike) Laker, Rachelle (Jim) Winter, Amanda (Bill) Slattery, Jeremy Huston, Tabitha (Bob) Cooley, Joshua Collins, Nick (Haley) Huston and Nathan Huston; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Eula Arthur and Pearl Clontz, both of London, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bert Huston, her husband of 69 years, on February 11, 2024; a son-in-law, Rick Collins; siblings, Sammy Smith, Delora Dugger, Carl Smith, Hazel Weaver, Ethel Proffitt, Arnold Smith, Juanita House, and Henry Lee Smith.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Keith Wooden officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
