Vera Marie McCorkhill, age 83, of New Castle, passed away Friday, July 1, 2011 at Henry County Hospital. She was born on December 6, 1927 in Alexandria to the late Everett and Margaret (Silvey) Maynard.
Vera retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1985 following 34 years of service. She was a member of the First Assembly of God where she taught Sunday school, vacation Bible school and worked in the Shepherd’s Door Food Pantry. She was a member of the ABWA – Silver Dawn Chapter. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club as well as a member of Bible Study Fellowship for many years.
Survivors include a daughter: Michelle (husband: Tony) Hacker of Spiceland; two brothers: Donald (wife: Mary Jo) Maynard of Glenwood, Iowa, Danny Maynard of Xenia, Ohio; step-children: Michael McCorkill, Vicki (husband: John) McCormack, Cheryl Devorack; one grandchild: Joshua Hacker of Spiceland; six step-grandchildren; four nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Cortlan McCorkhill in 1996.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at First Assembly of God with Reverend Stephen Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
