Vera I. Swift

Vera I. Swift, 93, of New Castle passed away Tuesday October 8, 2024, at her home. She was born on November 8, 1930, in New Castle to the late Alford and Madelyn (Stockton) Ford.

She was a graduate of New Castle High School and then earned an Associated degree from IUPUI. Vera was a Foster Parent for over 30 years with over a 100 children during those years. She was a member of New Castle First Church of the Nazarene. Vera taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, worked in the nursey and was part of the Joy Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, flower gardening and spending time with her family.

Vera is survived by her children, Jeff (Debi Cole) Swift, Carol (Bill) Hamby and Timothy (Rachel) Swift; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother, Tom Ford; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Vera is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Swift; children, Steve (Phyllis) Swift, Cindy (John) Melton, Cathy Keesling, Jerry Swift, Brian Swift and Jeanett Swift; brothers, Wayman Ford, Joesph Ford and George Ford; sisters, Velma Orcutt and Mary Huffman.

Services will be on Tuesday October 15, 2024, at 1:00 pm at New Castle First Church of the Nazarene, 1727 Grand Ave, New Castle, IN 47362 with Pastor Jimmy Southerland officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
