Verlie Gilstrap, age 83, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord, while surrounded by her family, Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle. She was born October 6, 1930 in Lake City, Tennessee to the late Leander and Lu (Young) Smith.
She loved reading, quilting and crocheting. She attended Grand Avenue and Memorial Baptist Churches.
Survivors include her daughters, Jeannette Lee, Carolyn Slagle and Connie Ward all of New Castle, Sheila Winchester of Anderson, Paulette (Don) DeBoard, Candace (Dana) Gray; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Ward; two daughters, Pamela Patterson and Donna Messick; grandson, Gabriel Markle; great granddaughter, Cierra Markle; son-in-law, Danny Lee; one brother and four sisters.
Private services will be on Monday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Steve Dugger and Carolyn Slagle officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. You may express condolences or share a memory of Verlie at www.hinsey-brown.com .
