Verlon Shepherd, 80, a resident of Greensboro, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at his home. He was born February 13, 1936 in Roxanna, Kentucky a son of Tressie and Emma (Collins) Shepherd.
Verlon retired from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle in 1998 after 30 years of service. He was previously employed at Nicholson File in Anderson for 10 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and yardwork. Verlon was an active member of Cadiz Christian Church and formerly Kennard Christian Church where he was song leader, deacon and sang in the choir. He also enjoyed family reunions.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Shirley Shepherd; son, Gregg (Kim) Shepherd of Warrensburg, MO; two grandsons, Mitchell and Zachary Shepherd; sister, Carolyn (Dave) Hennis of Ingalls; two brothers, Clarence (Peggy) Shepherd of Lake Wales, FL and Roger Shepherd of Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kris Shepherd; three brothers and four sisters.
Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
