Ernest “Vernon” Thompson, Jr., age 70 of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 26, 1942 in Haldeman, Kentucky to the late Ernest and Edna (Horton) Thompson.
He retired from Dana Corporation after 20 years of service. He was a truck driver for several years. He was an original “picker”. Vernon enjoyed working, dancing and motorcycling.
Survivors include his wife, Lavon (Sublett) Thompson whom he married December 24, 1962; three daughters, Jane Thompson of New Castle, Donna Thompson of South Bend and Amanda (Jon) Wirt of Elkhart; four granddaughters: Courtney Stephens (David Ruiz), Erica Wirt, Olivia Thompson, and Ying Thompson; Two great grandchildren: Kailey and Hayden; brother: Wayne Thompson of Morehead, KY; sister: Diana (husband: Curt) Bowling of Morehead, KY; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Yvonne “Bunny” and Patty.
Services will be at 4:00p.m.Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Friends may call from 2-4p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
