Viola Mae “Vi” (Amburgey) Mastin, age 85, a lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg. She was born September 11, 1926 in Mooreland, Indiana to the late David F. and Olive (Wise) Amburgey.
She graduated from Mooreland high school in 1944. Viola married John W. Mastin November 10, 1946 by Reverend Herman Ast at the Messick United Brethren Church and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She retired from Dana Corporation in Hagerstown as a Customer Service Representative. She was an active member of South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle and Lake Wales, Florida Church of God. She was a volunteer of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and a member of the Lady Lions’ Club of New Castle.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, John David (wife, Sonja) Mastin of Scottsburg, IN, Richard D. (wife, Cheryl) Mastin of North Port, FL and Judy Mastin Letsinger of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Chris, Dirk, Michael, Brent and Brian Mastin; fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Alma (husband, Robert) Rich, Herman Amburgey, Violet Baldwin and Guy V. Amburgey.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the South Memorial Drive Church of God in New Castle with Pastor Chris Gammello officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
