Viola J. Schaeffer

Viola J. Schaeffer, 83, of Knightstown, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born December 6, 1931 in Sabetha, KS a daughter of Omer and Alma (Brammer) Porter.

Viola retired from Western Electric after 12 years of service. She had worked as a bartender, cook and waitress and took great pride in waitressing. She enjoyed cooking for her family, going to casinos and family houseboat trips and cruises. Viola was an auxiliary member of the Knightstown American Legion Post # 152.

She is survived by daughter, Pam (Clyde) South of Knightstown; son, Ronald L. (Iris Barker) Schaeffer, Sr. of Fleming Island, FL; grandchildren, Amy (Brian) South Cummings of Fortville, Brett Aaron (Julie) South of Lawrence, Jason (fiance, Monica Locker) South of Knightstown, Ronald L. Schaeffer II of Knightstown, and Brian Edward Schaeffer of Fleming Island, FL; great grandchildren, Nicholas Cummings, Connor Cummings, Brady Cummings, Brady South, Alyssa South, Dylan South, Ronald Schaeffer III, Abriana Schaeffer; sisters, Margie Harvey of GA and Corky (Bill) Mitchell of Anderson; several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Roy Schaeffer; son, Randy E. “Smokey” Schaeffer; brothers, Mitchell, Willard and Woodrow Porter.

Services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 PM Friday.
