Virgil F. Jones, 83 of Springport passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was born on April 1, 1941 in England, AR, a son to the late Virgil Dean and Merle (Harris) Jones.
A dedicated and patriotic veteran of the United States Army, Virgil served in the 76th Engineer Battalion during the Cuban missile crisis and was stationed in Germany at the Berlin Wall. Following his military service, Virgil had a 36-year career at Westinghouse/ABB in Muncie prior to the plant closing. Virgil's passion for adventure led him to obtain his pilot's license and travel the United States on his motorcycle with his wife. Linda. However, following retirement, Virgil’s main occupation was fishing; he loved to fish on a daily basis year-round. During the winter months he would fish at his home in Louisiana and in the summer, he would return home to fish the lakes here in Indiana. He fished many bass tournaments and belonged to some bass clubs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Linda (Appleby) Jones of Springport; son, Virgil Dean (Kathy) Jones of Springport; daughter, Cindy (Brian) Yaney of Muncie; grandchildren, Amanda (Johnny) Garner of Muncie, Ashley Johnson of Muncie, Brock Smith of Selma and Keegan Jones of Muncie; 9 great grandchildren; nieces, Thresa Hunter of Malvern, AR and Jonnie Kingston of Katy, TX; nephew, James Mills of Indianapolis.
