Virginia Norris

Virginia Norris, age 95, of Mt. Summit, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Heritage House of New Castle where she resided for the past 5 ½ years. She was born October 17, 1918 in Nicholas County, Kentucky to the late Samson and Fannie May (Rice) McCarty.

She retired from Brooks Foods in Mt. Summit following 28 years of service. She loved being with her kids, grandkids and great-great grandkids. She also loved cooking Sunday dinners and working in her yard and flowers. She enjoyed raising her baby chickens.

Survivors include three children, Edward Lee "Pete" (Pat) Norris of New Castle, Betty (Jim) Melton of Mt. Summit and Judy (Bobby) Carter of Springport; sixteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; sixteen great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clytes "Buck" Norris; three sons, Joseph Manuel Norris, Ralph Ervin Norris and Coy Allen Norris; two grandsons, Tim Manuel Norris and Matthew Allen Manuel Norris; one great-great grandson, Wyatt Bradley Upchurch; all of her siblings.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. at Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Little Red Door, 1201 Race Street, New Castle, IN 47362.
