Virginia Daniel Sheffield, 88, of New Castle, IN died peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. She was a long-time resident of Ft. Worth, TX. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Gene D. Sheffield in 1995. Born in Hill County, TX on April 9, 1929, she was a graduate of Pascal High School (Ft. Worth), Harris School of Nursing, and Texas Christian University (TCU); she completed graduate work at Baylor University. Virginia was retired from the Ft. Worth Independent School District, most recently at Western Hills High School, and had also worked for many years as the director of nursing at Turtle Creek and Community care nursing homes in New Castle; the New Castle State Hospital; and the Henry County Health Department. She faithfully attended Ft. Worth Faith United Methodist Church (Riverside UMC) and New Castle First Church of the Nazarene.
She enjoyed a rewarding career as a registered nurse, spending time with her grandchildren, shopping, and tracing her genealogy directly to pioneers of the Republic of Texas. Virginia was a loving mother to her children and a devoted grandmother. She was always trying to raise her children in an honorable, upright way.
She is survived by her three children, Susan (Jeff) Berry, Melissa White, and Gordon (Libby) Sheffield. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jenny Norris, Ryan (Krysten) Phillips, Lindsay (Kyle) Truly, Kelsi Berry and Jason White; in-laws, Janet (Sheffield) Hay and Harold Hacker, and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Clifford Daniel and Maydell Norwood; brother, James Daniel, a dear aunt, Corine McFarland, in-laws, Willie R. and Laura Mae Sheffield, James and Ermal Sheffield, Emery and Jean Sheffield, Willie Mae Sheffield, Myra (Sheffield) Hacker, and a nephew, Keith Sheffield.
