Virginia Belle Smith

Virginia “Jenny” Belle (Young) Smith, 82, of New Castle went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 9, 2025. She was born July 20, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana to the late Donald E. Young and Eula F. (Watson) Thomas.

Lovingly known as “Sister Jenny” or “Grandma Jenny” by her friends, family and church family; she was the perfect example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Jenny was a longtime, active member of The Sanctuary of New Castle and loved to tell everyone about the Apostolic Pentecostal faith. She was a longtime Sunday School teacher and in her earlier years attended the Apostolic Pentecostal Church on North 26th Street where she helped with the children’s department at church camp for many years.

Jenny had worked in food service most of her life, working for the State of Indiana, Department of Corrections in Pendleton. She had a passion for cooking and baking, always cooking for every family or church get together. Jenny had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Jaynes and Kathy (Kevin) Weesner; grandson, Korbin Weesner (Grace Ward); step daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Michael) Grose; step grandchildren, Sarah Mills, Maxwell Grose; step great grandchildren, Carolyn Mills, Hayden Altherr, Xion Altherr, Charlotte “Carly” Mills, Ezekiel Grose, Ezra Mills and Sailor Grose; a step great great granddaughter, Winter Jeske; several nieces, nephews and many close friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra M. Smith; sister, Helen Law and a brother, Thomas Young.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Waters of New Castle and Henry County Hospice for the exceptional care Jenny received.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025 at The Sanctuary of New Castle, 2208 Broad Street New Castle, with Pastor Jeff Jaco officiating. Burial will follow South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
