Virginia Violet (Stephens) Stacey, 85, of Spiceland, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at her home. She was born January 26, 1926 in West Virginia and arrived in Indiana when she was five days old. Virginia is the daughter of Ollie and Faithy (Gilliam) Stephens.
She worked all her life starting as a teenager cooking for field hands and picking tomatoes on her parents’ farm. She worked in several restaurants including Vi’s Lounge at Knightstown. Everyone loved her cooking. She worked 15 years at Western Electric. She was a hard worker all her life. Hobbies for Violet included gardening, canning and making sure everyone had a full stomach. She loved her family and was always excited to see them.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Frieda (husband, James) Lloyd of Spiceland, Lorita Miller (companion, Thomas Alexander) of New Castle, and Velma (husband, Victor) Gulley of Spiceland; a brother: Bob (wife, Lavon) Stevens of Knightstown; and her sister Lura Stephens who lived with her for 30 years; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Delbert Holley Stacey; a son: Philip Dale Stacey; 3 brothers: Junior, Coy and Donnie Stephens; a sister: Odeline Enix.
Services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday prior to the service.
