W. Ray Warnes, age 83 of Mooreland, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at his residence. He was born May 13, 1928 in Villa Grove, Illinois, to the late William H. and Tessie Mae (Berry) Warnes.
A 1946 graduate of McKinley High School in Winchester, Indiana, he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. An avid outdoorsman, he loved nature, enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, camping and bird watching. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church in Mt. Pleasant. He retired from Westinghouse in Muncie after nearly 30 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Margaret E. Warnes of Mooreland; five children, Scott (wife, Norma) Warnes of Springport, Karen (husband, Mike) Robertson of Indianapolis, Connie (husband, Thomas) Honn of Springport, Mary Jo (husband, David) Helms of Muncie and Rebecca (husband, Jerry) Kuhn of Springport; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Ann Addington of Albany, IN; a brother, William H. “Bill” (wife, Gloria) Warnes, Jr. of Salt Lake City, UT; four nieces and nephews; he was also survived by many close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Mike Addington and Douglas Warnes.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Marvin Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Muncie. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the funeral home, and from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Thursday, prior to services. Online condolences many be expressed at
