Walter "Buck" Estes

Walter “Buck” Estes, age 78, of Slocum Alabama, formerly of New Castle, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 16, 2009. He was born December 23, 1930 in Versailles, Kentucky to the late Edward Bradley and Grace (Cosby) Estes.

He had been employed by Chrysler Corporation and retired from Warner Gear in Muncie following several years of service. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a wonderful man, and had a good and giving heart. He loved his family and life, was an extreme animal lover and enjoyed flying airplanes, riding motorcycles and driving a semi. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cynthiana, Kentucky and attended the New Post Assembly of God in Slocum, Alabama also serving as sexton of the cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years: June (Cranfill) Estes of Slocum, AL; two daughters: Marcia (husband: Charles) Byrket of Knightstown and Suzan Estes (fiancé: Sherman Cadle) of Highland, TX; four stepsons: Jerry W. (wife: Sharon) Fields of Indianapolis, Larry E. (wife: Sheila) Fields of New Castle, Anthony Fields of Slocum, AL and Donald R. (wife: Kimberly) Fields of New Paris, OH; step daughter: Linda (husband: Larry) Fields Harrison of Pendleton, IN; grandchildren: Lisa (husband: Jason) Ash of Knightstown, Laura (husband: Warren) Cannon of Indianapolis, Lana Byrket of New Castle and Sara Clapp (fiancé: Patrick Booth) of Indianapolis; step granddaughter: Halana Saunders of Pendleton, IN; thirteen step grandchildren; great grandson: Noah Cannon of Indianapolis; a sister: Ruth Clark of Harrodsburg, KY; brother-in-law: Ernest R. Moore of Slocum, AL; mother-in-law: Melinda Butler of Slocum, AL; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Knightstown American Legion. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Friday, March 20, 2009 at the funeral home.
