Wanda R. (Owings) Van Slyke, 69, of Bloomfield, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Garden Villa Healthcare in Bloomington, following an extended illness. She was born November 30, 1943 in Bloomington, a daughter of the late Rev. Wallace J. and Esther M. (Shute) Owings.
A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and raising her family. She and her husband pastored the First Pentecostal Church in Bloomfield since 2000, and previously pastored the Apostolic Tabernacle in Camby, Indiana for 18 years. Her life was spent serving others, and being a wife, mother, grandmother, and a helpmate to her husband.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of over 52 years, Rev. W.D. Van Slyke of Bloomfield; four children, Terri Dillery of Linton, Dean Van Slyke Jr. of Bloomfield, Kevin (Chris) Van Slyke of Camby, and Kenny (Becky) Van Slyke of Mooresville; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Myrna (Otis) Whaley of Bloomington; a brother, Donald (Faye) Owings of Bloomington; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Peterson.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at First Pentecostal Church in Bloomfield with Pastor John Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Cemetery in Bloomington.
