Welby Steele, age 92, of New Castle, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Glen Oaks Health Campus. He was born March 16, 1924 to the late Howard and Jenny (Hendricks) Steele.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and retired from the US Postal Service where he delivered mail for many years for Spiceland. Welby was a member of the Knightstown Friends church. He loved camping in his Airstream, photography and euchre.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Butch) Rutherford of Spiceland and Carol (Larry) Phillips of Greenwood; grandchildren, Bill Rutherford of Spiceland, Terry Rutherford (fiancé, Lauren Mey) of Ft. Wayne, Jaime (Jim) Hampton of Acton, Debbie (Bret) Siebe of Greenwood; great grandsons, Brandon and Mason Siebe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby (Williamson) Steele.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Chris Sitler officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
