William L. “Bill” Smith, 77, of Oakville, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017 in Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born September 9, 1940 in Monticello, KY, a son of the late Freeman and Elsie (Chriswell) Smith.
A 1958 graduate of Muncie Central High School, he served three years in the U.S. Army, and he retired from the United States Postal Service in Muncie following 32 years of service. He attended First Brethren Church in Oakville, where he loved singing in the choir, and had a beautiful voice. He enjoyed bowling and researching genealogy.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Holsinger-Smith of Oakville; a daughter, Arletta (Roger) Christman of Selma, and a son, Jeffery (Stephanie) Smith of North Carolina; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Drew Christman, both of Selma; three sisters, Carolyn Shenner of Daleville, Rita (Bob) Byers of Texas, and Anjenette Dan of Las Vegas, NV; two step-children, Sandra (Joe) Marcum of Mooreland and Scott Holsinger of Oakville; a step grandson, Jason (Angel) Lambert of New Castle, and their children, Isaac and Dalton Lambert of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lindel “Buddy” Smith.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Oakville First Brethren Church.
