William D. “Bill” Cable, 81, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 31, 2013 while visiting his son in Georgia. He was born January 25, 1932 in New Castle, a son of Marion and Opal (Banta) Cable.
A 1950 graduate of Spiceland High School, he graduated from Electronics Engineering School in Indianapolis. He retired from RCA Thompson in Marion after 41 years of service. Bill very much enjoyed Ham Radio, and used the handle K9YBY, for which he was well known. He enjoyed wood working, especially wood “turning”. Bill was active with Habitat for Humanity, loved to fish (especially with his grandson), and served as director of AARP tax program, which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of First Friends Meeting in New Castle where he served as trustee for 15 years and also enjoyed working at the church as a handyman.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 61 years: Anita (Greiner) Cable of New Castle; a daughter: Sandra Jo Cable of Yorktown; sons: Bruce Allen (wife, Diane) Cable of Agua Dulce, CA and Jeffrey David (wife, Kara) Cable of Hamilton, GA; a grandson: Ryan Tyler Cable of Hamilton, GA; a brother: Ray Cable of Batesville; a sister: Joy Humbert of Messick; brothers-in-law: Joe (wife, Anna) Greiner of Losantville, Rex (wife, Nila) Bales of Franklin, Gene (wife: Virginia) Bales of Rustin, LA; sister-in-law: Bonnie Golliher of Lebanon, MO; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Opal (Banta) Cable.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Bill Wagoner and Pastor Rick Schoeff officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday, February 4, 2013 at the funeral home.
