William Curtis “Curt” Carnes, 79, of Spiceland, went home to the Lord on Thursday, September 15, 2011. He was born September 23, 1931 in Jamestown, Kentucky, to the late William Daniel and Sally (Thurston) Carnes.
Curt retired from Bridgestone Firestone in Noblesville following 30 years of service. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Orleck-DD886. He loved playing county music instruments, gardening, yard work, racing, and getting together every Sunday with his family for dinner.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Louise (Nunley) Carnes of Spiceland; son, David Brent (wife, Leann) Carnes of Shirley; stepchildren, Gayle (husband, Bill) Lester of Spiceland, Phyllis (husband, David) Knepley of Greensboro, Beverly Cleek of Anderson, Russel Cleek of Greensboro; step daughter-in-law, Linda Cleek; sisters, Norma (husband, Jack) Carnes Sanders of Brazil and Lois Uldean (Carnes) Davis; brothers, Cordell (Janice) Carnes of Middletown and Homer Carnes of New Castle; grandchildren, Destiny Carnes, Abriana Carnes and Kamelia Carnes; step grandchildren, Melissa (husband, David) Busby, Carla Lester, Tracy Denny, Autumn (husband, Jimmy) Jessie, Todd (wife, Debbie) Cleek, Brent Cleek, Brandon Cleek, Scott (wife, Stephanie) Knepley, Mickel Knepley, Lindsay (husband, Mike) Syrus, and Kaunner Cleek; eleven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nineteen nieces and nephews; good family friend, Linda Richey.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyne Carnes; brother, Kenneth Carnes; nephew, Danny Carnes; niece, Jackie Dickinson; stepson, Lonnie Cleek; brother-in-law, Donald Davis.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor David Todd and Mort Radford officiating. Burial will follow in Hicksite Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
