William W. “Bill” Clampitt, 93, resident of New Castle, passed away at his home on January 12, 2025. He was born in Lawrence County, Indiana on February 4, 1931 to the late Dale and Leona (Hatfield) Clampitt.
Bill was a proud graduate of Shawswick High School class of 1949 and loved to attend annual class reunions. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bill was employed as a systems analyst at Ford Electronics and Refrigeration Corporation, retiring in 1993 after 26 years of service.
Bill married the love of his life, Margie Hillenburg, in 1952. They enjoyed 72 years of being led and blessed by the Lord together. He loved his large family and took great delight in hosting family gatherings and celebrations. All who knew him admired his kind and gentle spirit. His smile and warm embrace brought much joy to everyone.
As a devoted follower of Jesus, Bill actively attended South Memorial Drive Church of God, serving as the leader of the Karing Keenagers, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of various boards and committees. He and his wife, Margie, volunteered as youth directors for eighteen years and attended nine international youth conventions. They also traveled with the Indiana South Youth Choir summer tours for 30 years, raising thousands of dollars for Camp Challenge and impacting the lives of hundreds of youth.
Bill and Margie enjoyed traveling around the world and participating in mission experiences. His greatest highlight was visiting the Holy Land in Israel and being baptized in the Jordan River. He also enjoyed college sports and loved spending time at his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s athletic events.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Margie (Hillenburg) Clampitt; son, Scott (Lana) Clampitt of New Castle; 3 daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Betten of New Castle, Annette Clampitt of Dayton, OH and Lisa (David) Huff of Noblesville; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Ann Kneisly of Dayton, OH.
