William K. "Bill" Crandall, 81, of New Castle passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Addison House. He was born June 13, 1932 in Bluffton, Indiana to the late Marvin and Nora (Neff) Crandall.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Bluffton High School. He then joined the U.S. Army and served from 1951-1954 and was a member of the Mule Pack during the Korean War. Bill returned home after his years with the military and graduated from Indiana University. He retired as the City Editor for the New Castle Courier-Times in 1979 and retired from the Henry County Superior Court II in 1997. Bill was a past member and past officer of the ELKS B.P.O.E. #484. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing pool.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary A. Crandall of New Castle; daughters, Cindy (Mike) Hicks of Indianapolis, Katy Blevins (deceased: Tim Blevins) of New Castle, and Lori (Tom) Oliver of Fishers; grandchildren, William, Kelsey, Jesse, Tommy, David, Alisha, Dakota, and Skylar; great grandchildren, Kayden, Logan, Matthew, Sarah, Emma, Gage, and Gavin; a brother, Jerry A. (Margaret A.) Crandall; and a sister, Becky (Bill) Steury , both of Bluffton; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with David Futrell officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
