William Kirby

June 15, 1954 — July 2, 2010

William Kirby, age 56, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 2, 2010. He was born June 15, 1954 in Henry County to the late Bays and Columbia (Hodges) Kirby.

He was a 1975 graduate of Tri High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. Following high school, he married and became a family oriented man. He enjoyed coaching his son Chris in wrestling and also served as wrestling referee. He was employed as an EMT by Henry County EMS. Bill was a Volunteer Firefighter for the Dunreith Fire Department and formerly a volunteer for the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department. He was currently serving on the Henry County Hazmat Team. He was a former Redcross member and an EMT for the Southwest District. A very civic minded person who loved to lend a helping hand, Bill loved to spend time with his grandchildren and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his wife Cindy (Ballard) Kirby of New Castle; son, Chris (wife, Codie) Kirby of Williamsburg; step-children, Shannon (husband, Chris) Huntley of New Castle, David Whittington of New Castle, and Jonathan Whittington of New Castle; grandchildren, Amaya and Silas Kirby, both of Williamsburg; step-grandchildren, Bryce and Rylan Huntley of New Castle, Kilee and Kaiden Whittington of New Palestine, J.R. Whittington of New Castle; siblings, Frances (husband, Ernest) Key of Albany, KY, Elsie Howard of New Castle, Wanda (husband, Gene) Bertram of New Castle, Edward (wife, Susan) Kirby of Linton, Faye (husband, Ron) Daffron of North Carolina and Robert Kirby of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mavis Kirby, nephews Cory Kirby, Shelly Ray Howard; great nephews Robin Isaacs and Joseph Isaacs.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church in New Castle with Pastor Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 4797, Evansville, IN 47724.
