William Howard Pierce, 79, of Edwardsburg, Michigan and formerly of New Castle passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Indiana. He was born February 18, 1933 in Albany, Kentucky to the late John Henry and Jenny (Stockton) Pierce.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. A resident of Edwardsburg, Michigan since 1963, he retired from Mobile Home Transport Companies after many years of service, most recently Southeastern Mobile Home Transport in Elkhart, Indiana. He loved fishing, traveling, gardening and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also loved his corgi, Lulu. He was a member of the American Legion Post #365 in Edwardsburg, Michigan and of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, whom he married March 21, 1953, Ellen Marceline Pierce of Edwardsburg, Michigan; two sons, Michael L. (wife, Anne B.) Pierce of Goshen, IN and Roger A. Pierce of Elkhart, IN; two grandsons, Mark A. (companion, Jana) Pierce of Auburn, IN and Chad M. (fiancé, Cassie) Pierce of Goshen; one granddaughter, Andrea D. (husband, Josh) Keck of Goshen; nine great grandchildren, Mark Pierce Jr. Holly, Amber, Kaylee, Kayden and Kyler Pierce, Kenadi, Jackson and Madison Keck; sister, Janice Sullivan of Bradenton, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Pierce of New Castle.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Charles Dugger and Glenn Raney officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery-West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by VFW and the American Legion.
