William F. “Bill” Schlagel, 71, of Yorktown passed away Monday, May 27, 2013 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born April 1, 1942 in Muncie, IN to the late Loren F. and Alice (Randall) Schlagel.
He retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson in 1998 after 27 years of service. He attended Fairlawn Church of Christ in Muncie and belonged to Monroe Township Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Lois (Bailey) Schlagel; children, Samuel (wife, Lori) of Middletown, Kelly (husband, Jack) Hatch of Moran, Wyoming, Kathy (husband, Chuck) Flickinger of Jackson, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren, Kaylie, Joshua, Kelsey, Kenzie, Jerrod and Jayden Schlagel, Ella Hatch, Allison, Charlie (wife, Brook), Kelly, Ben and Anna Flickinger; brothers, Bob (Sandy) Moore of Warsaw, Ron Moore of Fort Wayne; a sister, Ruth (Dean) Roney of Paris, IL, Rick (Joyce) Moore of Liberty, KY; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Sue Schlagel of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice (Robert) Moore; father, Loren (Barbara) Schlagel; and a brother, Eugene Schlagel.
A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Fairlawn Church of Christ, 6108 W Bethel Ave. Muncie, IN 47304. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday .
