William Joseph Sheets

William “Bill” Joseph Sheets, age 80, currently of Muncie and formerly of Adamsville, TN, passed away on May 27, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born on November 15, 1943, in Shirley, Indiana, the son of the late Charles Ralph and Nellie Eileen (Fisher) Sheets.

Bill graduated from Wilkinson High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force, serving his country for six years before transitioning to the Army National Guard, where he served an additional six years. Bill spent 15 years as an over-the-road truck driver, a job he loved. He later worked as a senior staff sergeant at the Indiana State Penitentiary in Pendleton for 18 years before retiring. A man of many talents and passions, Bill was an avid fisherman and had a great love for gardening, particularly flowers and vegetables. He cherished his dog, Mooch. Known for his exceptional carpentry skills, Bill built tables, drawers, cabinets, and even constructed his own house. His helpful nature and willingness to assist others were hallmarks of his character. Bill’s life was a testament to dedication, hard work, and a profound love for those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his son, David W. (Amy Lee) Sheets of Muncie; grandsons, Tyler and Jacob (Janelle) Sheets both of Oneida, NY; great grandchildren, Vincent and Kinsley Ann Sheets; sisters, Jackie Ashby on Middletown, Mary Lou Johnson of Fairland and Sandra Dockery of Indianapolis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, June 15, 2024 at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, IN. Military honors will be conducted by the New Castle American Legion/VFW and the US Air Force.  You may express condolences or share memories of Bill at www.hinsey-brown.com.
