William Willey

December 23, 1919 — May 30, 2010

William P. “Bill” Willey Jr., age 90, of Charlottesville, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born December 23, 1919 in Rush County, a son of the late William Parker and Leila (Wilson) Willey.

A 1937 graduate of Rushville High School, he retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis following 20 years of service. He was also a lifelong farmer in Henry and Rush counties.

A member of the Masonic Lodge, he was also a member of the East Street Christian Church in Carthage. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Shriners. He also served on the Charlottesville Volunteer Fire Department for over 15 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory, eight children, Roy (wife, Susan) Willey of Mt. Summit, Rose Willey of Adairsville, GA, Buddy (wife, Ronelle) Willey of Carthage, Bob (wife, Debbie) Willey of Charlestown, IN, Linda Shue of Charlottesville, Jerry (wife, Kellie) Willey of Middletown, Charles (wife, Sherri) Willey of Winfield, WV, and Kathy Donzell of Dallas, TX; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; four sisters, Naomi Esprovnik, Pat Kunstick, Faye Gillette, and Dorothy Walker, all of northern Indiana; a brother, Wilfred “Ted” Willey of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lorena Willey; a daughter, Lillian Willey; a granddaughter, Whitney Cornell; two sisters, Nancy Heim and Marjorie E.; two brothers, Walter R. “Dick” and Weldon Willey.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with military rites being conducted by the American Legion. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010 and from noon to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hinsey-brown.com
