Wilma J. Ashby

April 21, 1922 — May 16, 2011

Wilma J. Ashby, 89, of New Castle, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2011 while residing at Hickory Creek of New Castle. She was born April 21, 1922 in New Castle a daughter of the late James and Delia (Schlenker) Edwards.

Wilma worked at Kresge’s and A & P Grocery in New Castle. She also worked many years for Becker Brother’s Master Market in the Meat/Deli Dept. and more recently enjoyed volunteering at Tis the Season Gift Shop in New Castle. She was a member of the Sulphur Springs Christian Church, Pythian Sisters, where she had served as Past Chief, and loved playing euchre and other games with her family. Wilma was an avid fan of the Anderson Speedway, and spent every Saturday night there for many years.

She is survived by a daughter: Maridene (husband, Denny) Adams of New Castle; two step sons: Larry (wife, Becky) Ashby of Muncie, Tony (wife: Jennifer) Ashby of Tipton; one step daughter: Patty McAtee of De Motte, IN; grandchildren: Jodi (husband, Keith) Goff of New Castle, Christian Adams of New Castle, Jessica (husband, Kyle) Larson of Anderson; Misty (husband: James) Brooks of Muncie, Chris (wife, Michelle) Ashby of Matthews, IN, Shannon (wife, Jena) Ashby of Muncie, Dakota Ashby of Tipton, Michael Ashby of Cambridge City, Casey Ashby of Tipton, Scott (wife, Jen) McAtee of Monticello, Sean (wife, Jane) McAtee of Indianapolis, Jennifer (husband, Cal) McCarty of Monee, IL; seventeen great grandchildren, including Paige Larson, to whom she was very close; a sister, Myra Williams of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands: Robert Crandall and Albert Ashby; infant son: Robert Eugene Crandall; brother: Vernon Edwards.

Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Sulphur Springs Christian Church with Pastor C. J. Buskirk officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle where a Pythian Sisters Memorial Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sulphur Springs Christian Church Building Fund, 3368 W.
