Wilma T. (Castle) Douglas, age 88, of New Castle, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at her home following a long illness with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Loyd Douglas. Her family was honored to have been able to care for her at home until her death. Wilma was born Dec. 5, 1928 in Soldier, Ky to the late Melvin Castle and Stella (Hinton) Castle. Wilma was one of eleven children. She moved to New Castle in 1948. She married Loyd Douglas, also from Soldier, Ky, on Feb. 26, 1949.
Wilma was employed as a waitress in the early years, and at Brook’s Foods, and was employed with the New Castle School Corp. as a cook at Westwood Elementary School for many years leading to her retirement. Wilma was the perfect example of someone who “Lived to Give”. She was her happiest when she was helping family, friends or her church, Cross Road Church. Until her later years…she was an excellent southern cook and enjoyed cooking for others. She kept a spotless home, seldom set down to rest and was always busy. She also loved to shop and loved to find bargains, mostly for her family. All children, but especially her grandchildren, brought her much happiness. She was well-known by friends and strangers for her sweet smile and tender heart.
In addition to her husband, Wilma is survived by two children, Pastor Danny Douglas (wife, Annette) of New Castle, and Kathy (husband, Sherman) Boles of New Castle, three grandchildren: Sarah Thompson (husband, Troy), Josh Douglas (wife, Ashley), and Rachel Reece (husband, Tyler), seven great grandchildren: Taylor, Savannah, Tory, Ainsley, Raegan, Hunter and Cashden; sisters, Betty Grider and Mary Rogers, and many nieces, nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Gordon Castle, Melvin Castle Jr, Chester Castle, Coy Castle, Ival Castle, Ken Castle, Leecester Castle and an infant sibling; many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Pastor Danny Douglas officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cross Road Church Ministries, 2748 N.
