Wilma (Crabtree) Lacy Swindle, age 89, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. She was born July 5, 1923 in Little Crab, Tennessee to the late George Martin and Frankie Brier (Reagan) Crabtree.
She attended Alvin C. York Institute in Jamestown, Tennessee and Holmes Jr. College in Mississippi where she earned her nursing assistant degree. She had worked as a nurses aide at Ball Memorial Hospital, Henry County Hospital and at Ball State. Wilma’s life was spent caring for others. She loved to cook, garden and take care of her family. Both the Lacy family and the Swindle families were loved and cared for by her and she will be lovingly remembered by them all.
She is survived by 4 children: Mary Saruwatori (Gary) of Clovis, CA, George Lacy (Barbara) of Spiceland, Elaine Petry (Jim) of Friant, CA, William Lacy (Millie) of Hawaii; step-daughter: Norma Jean Ellison (Jim) of New Castle; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law: Juanita Swindle of AL, Jeanette Swindle of TN, and Mavis Swindle of AL; 2 brothers-in-law: J. V. Swindle and J. E. Swindle; and several nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Archie Lacy; second husband: Euless Swindle; a sister: Rose Stilipec; 4 brothers: Ewing, Joe, Johnny and Lester Crabtree.
Services will be at 7:00 PM, Friday, December 7, 2012 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Cathy Harris officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 PM Friday prior to the service.
