Winfield "Sam" D. Abrams, 88, a resident of Knightstown passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his home. He was born March 1, 1934 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to the late Willie E. and Della M. (Rose) Abrams.
He retired from General Motors Corp. in 1988 after 33 years of service. Winfield was a member and taught Sunday school at the Knightstown Church of God and was currently a member of Faith Chapel in Knightstown. He had a very giving spirit, always offering help to his family, friends, neighbors and anyone else in need of assistance. Winfield was very skilled at fixing a wide range of things; from cars and tractors to appliances and just about anything else. He was mechanically inclined and always seemed to have just the right “gadget” to get the job done. His strong work ethic carried over into caring for his wife while in failing health in recent months. He had a love of bluegrass gospel music and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years: Floris L. (Nolen) Abrams, whom he married January 31, 1955; two sons: David Abrams of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Doug (Laurie) Abrams of New Castle; a daughter: Delaura Abrams of Knightstown; nine grandchildren: Samantha McCorkle, Lauren McCorkle, Michael (Brooklyn) Abrams, Shelby (Jake) Nation, Amber Abrams-Redmond, Mason Garris, William “Bill” Phillips, Aron Carpenter, and Colton Abrams; several great-grandchildren, a sister: Jackie Carrithers of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Gene, Emerald, and infant brother, Billy Fred Abrams; and a sister: Mary Lewis.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 pm Wednesday, prior to the service.
