Zelma "Betty" Paine

February 9, 1928 — April 17, 2010

Zelma M. “Betty” Paine, age 82, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson. She was born February 9, 1928 in Randolph County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Clarence and Sarah Marie (Fields) Hale.

A 1946 graduate of Jefferson High School in Randolph County, Zelma retired in 1993 as a supervisor from the New Castle State Developmental Center after 37 ½ years of service. She had also served as activities director at Holly Hills Nursing Home in New Castle. She was a member of First Assembly of God where she worked with the Missionettes program, Vacation Bible School and other children’s activities. She was a Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed gardening and making candy.

Survivors include two children: Sarah M. (husband: James) Bradshaw of New Castle and Charles E. (wife: Elouise) Paine of New Castle; five grandchildren: Nathan (wife: Susan) Paine and their children: Alexia & Tyler Paine of Parker City; Joel (wife: Holli) Paine and their children: Maddison & Jaxen Paine of O’Fallon, Missouri; Jada Paine of Indianapolis; David Smith and his children: Jordan, Jonathon, Roger & Christian of New Castle; and Jeremiah (wife: Angela) Goad and their son: Mason of Pendleton; one brother: Charles (wife: Leona) Hale of Jay County, Indiana; and several nieces & nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Roger Thomas Paine and one sister: Mary Whitenack.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at First Assembly of God with Reverend Stephen Gallaway officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle. Memorial contributions may be given to First Assembly of God, Shepherd’s Door Food Pantry, 3600 South Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362.
